Living a positive, optimistic lifestyle is said to be all in our heads, meaning that if we think happy thoughts we will automatically be happy. While this concept is hard to grasp when times in our life reach rough points, there are few habits we can start that will ensure a healthier, happier life. It all starts with the food and nutrients we put into our bodies.
Eating a wholesome, balanced diet can be beneficial in more ways than we sometimes imagine. We have our “favorite food,” and while this food makes us feel good mentally, our body may not appreciate this “favorite food” of ours. There are certain foods that need to be at the top of our favorite foods list—these foods are called superfoods.
The name “superfoods” implies that these foods are somewhat of a superhero in our diets—and that’s exactly right. These foods are full of beneficial nutrients that are essential to overall health and well-being. Superfoods are primarily plant-based, organic food items, but also include some fish and dairy items as well.
These foods contain high levels of necessary vitamins and nutrients our bodies need to be considered healthy, and some serve as antioxidants our bodies need to prevent disease and illness, as well as cell damage. These heroic foods are also said to lower cholesterol, prevent heart disease as well as some cancers. While preventing disease and cell damage is important, consuming these nutrient-rich superfoods also will make you feel better in general and put you in a better mood.
Our diets and the things that we put into our body undoubtedly affect everything we feel in our bodies and minds. It is amazing to see how altering your diet the smallest bit can completely improve your moods, how you feel, and even help you live a longer, healthier life. It’s important to know the basic, most nutrient-rich superfoods because some websites and magazines have lists that include anywhere from 50-100 superfoods, which can be overwhelming and not very accurate.
Blueberries are a superfood that contain a lot of antioxidants to ward off illness and toxins in our bodies. This superfood contains vitamins, phytochemicals, and soluble fibers. Most berries are just as beneficial to your body as blueberries as long as they are not poisonous, however, blueberries are easier and more conveniently found.
Beans and whole grains are also on the superfoods list because they contain insoluble fibers, which help lower cholesterol; soluble fibers, which help make you feel full longer; as well as a lot of vitamins and minerals that aren’t usually found in our diets. While whole grains do not give us large amounts of proteins, they do have similar benefits.
Kale is a dark, leafy superfood that, ever since the declaration of its nutrients and vitamins, has been a very popular food amongst Americans. This superfood is filled with vitamins A, C, and K, as well as calcium and other important minerals.
While the superfoods list could go on for days, those are just the top three most basic vitamin-packed superfoods that are very accessible to everyone. Most superfoods can be found at every local grocery store, and most can be easily consumed and do not require lengthy preparation and cooking. No matter the age of the person, superfoods are foods that everyone should begin including in their day-to-day diet, if they haven’t already. These simple foods will help you eat your way to a healthier and happier lifestyle.
