10 Ways to Spend More Quality Time with Your Kids

As a mom, I can tell you that it seems like just yesterday, my little girl had just been born.  I literally feel like I just brought her home and watched her grow into a toddler in a matter of hours. In fact, it brings tears to my eyes to know she’s already going to be three years old. The time seems to have flown by and before I know it, I know I’ll be watching her head off to her first day of school. Because I am a single mom, I work each and every day to give my daughter everything she needs and wants and sometimes feel like I don’t have enough time to spend with her. Because I realize how quickly the time is going, I have started finding ways to spend more quality time with her and I would like to share them so that other parents, who have been told how quickly their child will grow, can do the same.

  • Take Walks Together

While it may sound silly, taking walks with your child is a great way to relax and unwind at the end of the day. This is a great way for you to talk about anything and everything with your little one and maybe discover something cool along the way. The fresh air is also good for your child and can actually help him or her to tire out and fall asleep better.

  • Have Taco Night at Home

My daughter LOVES tacos, so I found a great way to spend time with her. We have a taco night at home. Usually, we do it on a Tuesday and call it Taco Tuesday. I let my daughter help me get things around for dinner and it makes her feel important, because she is helping. It also helps to teach her a routine for the next time we have taco night, and because she is so excited, she eats well. I also love to make dinner with my daughter because eating together is a great way to keep kids mentally and emotionally healthy.

  • Have a Movie Night

My daughter loves to watch movies, so we have a movie night together quite frequently. We make popcorn and cut up some fruits and veggies to snack on. Then we choose a fun movie to watch and snuggle either in bed or on the couch. I love movie nights because I get to snuggle with my little one and appreciate the small things.

  • Go Ice Skating

Ice skating is a great way for you to spend quality time with your little one, especially during the winter. You can teach your child to skate if you know how or you can learn to skate together. You’ll be surprised at how much you enjoy this and how many laughs you can share as you skate, hand in hand, around the skating rink.

  • Have a Game Night

Having a game night is a great way to connect and spend some quality time with your kids. Whether you’re playing board games or video games, you will be doing something your child loves and you can even have them teach you a few tips and tricks. This is a great way to show you are interested in things your child enjoys.

  • Fix Things Together

When something breaks inside your home, don’t try to fix it by yourself. Ask your child to help you fix it. This is a wonderful way for your little one to feel like he or she is helping and to learn important life skills. You can tell them how to do things and your child will remember this time you spent together later in life.

  • Take Your Child Grocery Shopping

Many parents hate to take their child grocery shopping with them, but it is actually a great idea. Teaching your child to buy the right foods and to look for a deal is important and this is a great way to spend time together. While many parents dread it, I love taking my daughter shopping with me.

  • Participate in Bath Time

Your child will only be small for a little while, so even though you may think it’s silly, help them to take a bath. You can get bath toys and play with your child, while teaching them about good hygiene at the same time.

  • Do Crafty Things Together

Kids love to do hands-on activities, so doing crafts together can be a fun way to spend some quality time. There are so many different crafts that you can do as well, so you will never get bored, and there is something for everyone.

  • Bake Cookies

My daughter loves cookies and I have found that baking cookies together is a great way to enjoy some time. We get out the cookie cutters and the sprinkles and really go to town with our sugar cookies. It can get messy, but the mess can easily be cleaned up.

My daughter is the most important thing in my life and I want to make memories and spend as much time with her as possible because I know how fast these days will go. If you’re looking for some fun ways to spend quality time with your kids, give these ideas a try. You’re sure to have fun and make some amazing memories!
